Olivia debourcier
M.SC.

Science Communicator and illustrator

As a Science Communicator and Illustrator at Fuse, Olivia brings her background in science interpretation, conservation biology, and illustration to share her love of nature and wildlife with those around her. She believes that the best science communication is both accessible and accurate, and that even the most complicated concepts can be taught with the right techniques.

Before joining Fuse, Olivia earned her Master of Science in Conservation Biology at the University of Alberta where she studied aquatic insects. Olivia is also the cohost and coproducer of Beyond Blathers, a science podcast and content creation company that explores the wild and wonderful world of insects, sea creatures, and paleontology for audiences of all ages. Her passion for bringing science communication to large audiences has led her to produce video and audio content across multiple platforms.

Olivia has shared her expertise with the public as an educational interpreter at a variety of institutions including the Edmonton Valley Zoo, John Janzen Nature Centre, and Muttart Conservatory. When she's not at work you can find her birding and taking pictures of the critters around her.

In addition to her MSc, Olivia holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Conservation Sciences majoring in the Human Dimensions of Environmental Management from the University of Alberta.
